SPEAK is a youth focused organisation promoting Human Rights, Gender Equality and HIV & AIDS prevention & awareness .  SPEAK is youth led and run by a group of like minded passionate individuals and volunteers working to mobilise and advocate for the rights of the marginalised communities. SPEAK is founded by leaders formerly associated with AMAL Human Development Network (established in 1994).

Our Mission

Promote collective voice and consciousness amongst citizenry by equipping them with skills and tools to advocate for their rights.

Our Approaches

We promote collective consciousness and actions through:

1) Evidence based (robust participatory research) advocacy, with duty bearers to ensure implementation of laws, policies and procedures at local levels.

2) Build linkages, capacities and facilitate change for networks and community based organizations to strengthen the local initiatives and their outreach.

3) Developing youth potential particularly engaging men and boys for gender equality, women empowerment and social justice through trainings on gender, masculinities and its nexus with conflict and violence followed by individual and collective social actions.

Management and Organisation


SPEAK has a highly qualified Board of Trustees who ensures effective governance of the organization through:

  • Acquiring and protecting the organization’s assets
  • Making certain the organization is working to fulfill its mission

At their best, the board reflects the collective efforts for advancing the institution’s mission and long-term welfare. The board’s contribution is strategic and the joint product of talented people. The Board organizes itself to carry out its duties and responsibilities. To manage the day-to-day operations of the NGO, the board of directors appoints a CEO.


  • 400 + staff of INGOs, NGOs and CBOs, trained on HIV, Gender mainstreaming and Engaging men and boys for gender equality.
  • 500 + common citiziens, especially men and boys, mentored and sensitized on how to be gender sensitive
  • 15 + people living with HIV provided with livelihood opportunities
  • 10 Million + reached through multiple media programs for awareness and advocacy on gender rights and ethical treatment of people living with HIV
  • Multiple protests held for protection of Transgenders, activists and people living with HIV
  • 500 + street youth sensitized on life skills based education and HIV protection 50 + provided with livelihood opportunities
  • 1000 + truck drivers and sex workers sensitized for HIV protection
  • 2000 + Migrants provided with HIV awareness prior to their departure to destination countries
  • 5 hospitals sensitized on how to deal with People living with HIV


Speak has been , since its inception, submitting narrative and financial reports to its donors according to their requirements. If required a dedicated bank account is operated to ensure transparency and accountability. Speak also conducts internal audits every year along with internal and external monitoring visits being the part of its monitoring and evaluation cycle.
